Minisoccer Coach Meeting to return equipment and pickup end-of-season giveaway soccer balls is Sunday, June 8, 12:30, at Chandler Fields
Posted June 4, 2008

Despite a somewhat damp spring, another successful season of Minisoccer is on the books.  Thanks to all the parents, players, coaches, and adminstrators who helped provide a great soccer experience for our younger players this season.

The end of the spring session is end of the "soccer year" for DYSA.  In Minisoccer, we mark the end of the year by giving each child who attends on the last day a Duxbury Youth Soccer custom made soccer ball to signify a job well done this year.   The kids are generally very excited to get a ball, and it can help encourage a continuing interest in soccer over the summer if parents make it a point to get the ball out and kick it around with the kids once in a while.   Rumor has it that the ball gets a lot more use than do trophies (and requires less dusting).

Due to the sudden bout of inclement weather forcing the rather abrupt ending of the season last week, we were unable to accomplish this.  We were also unable to complete the equipment collection from all coaches.

We will hold a meeting for coaches this Sunday, June 8 at 12:30 at Chandler/Coppens field at the equipment shed to wrap this up.  One coach from each team should come to the field at that time.

The AGC's will distribute giveaway balls to coaches (& player certificates to U8 coaches(U6 received these at the end of the session last Saturday)).

Coaches can then distribute giveaway balls to their team's players as they best determine.  A suggestion is that each coach should have a soccer ball pickup night at their house for their team(s).

Also, one coach from each team should check their equipment bag in with Jim Sullivan.  Each team will need to return, in their equipment bags:
    a.) their blue "game" soccer balls (1 per player);
    b.) any leftover uniform t-shirts;
    c.) their flat disc cones (approx 10 per team)
    d.) 7 green pinnies per team
In the confusion last week, some coaches were giving away the blue "game" soccer balls -- but may have recollected them from players already.  If not, they will need to do so.

Each head coach should arrange for one of the coaches from their team to come to Chandler/Coppens on Sunday at 12:30.

Again, thanks to all for your participation.  Have a great summer, and remember to register (early! on time!) for Fall soccer.

The Duxbury Youth Soccer Association will be conducting a Minisoccer Coaches Meeting and Parent Orientation/Training Session on Saturday, March 29 from 12 noon-2p.m. at the Coppens Field Complex at Chandler School (in case of inclement weather, the Chandler School Gymnasium will be used).  This preseason session is for all volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches, as well as any interested parents (whether or not you can help with the coaching this season).  The session will provide all coaches with fun and effective ways to teach our young players the game of soccer.  Coaches should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers, and bring your cleats if you choose, as we will use the fields.  As in the past, Lee Maxey will be conducting the session.

Anyone interested in learning about being a coach is more than welcome.  No previous soccer experience is necessary; your willingness to help out is all that is needed.

A coach from each team must attend as the session will also be used to brief all coaches on this season's changes to the structure of the U6 and U8 programs.

DYSA's Minisoccer progam is for kids born between 8/1/99 and 7/31/03.  Some openings remain for the upcoming season, but are filling up fast!  Although the discounted registration deadline has passed, late registrations are still being accepted for these age groups. To register, download a form from the Duxbury Youth Soccer website at  www.duxburyyouthsoccer.org, fill it out, and mail it in!

DUXBURY YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION SPRING MINISOCCER SEASON DATES
Posted March 7, 2008

Minisoccer is fun, healthy, team-based and instructional, and is designed with young kids in mind.  Minisoccer is for players in the following age groups:
Children born between 8/1/2001-7/31/2003 will play in the "Under-6" age group
Children born between 8/1/1999-7/31/2001 will play in the "Under-8" age group

The hour-long sessions focus on fun first, and are action packed -- a lot of ball touches, no standing around, and no lines.  Kids will enjoy playing with friends and meeting new ones in these well organized sessions.  The low or no pressure format includes high participation exercises and skill development, followed by fun match play (Under-6 play informal matches; Under-8 play matches against other teams on larger fields and goals)
 Parents are welcome to assist with the organization of the session and help with coaching if they like.  Instruction will be available for parents who are interested.  This season, our orientation/training session for interested parents and returning coaches will take place on Saturday March 29, from 12-2pm at Coppens Field Complex at Chandler School (Chandler School Gymnasium will be used in case of inclement weather).

The season runs on 7 weekends, hour-long sessions that take place on Sunday afternoons during April (4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27) and May (5/4, 5/11, and 5/18).  The "Under-6" group plays at 12 noon; "Under-8" play at 1:15pm.  All games are at Coppens Field Complex at Chandler School.

To All Fall 2007 DYSA Minisoccer Coaching volunteers (and potential volunteers...) -
Posted August 30, 2007

Hello to all returning coaches, and welcome to those of you who are coaching with us in the U6/U8 age groups for the first time. Thanks to all of you for volunteering to coach. Your assistance is greatly appreciated -- without your contribution we would have no program.

We're looking forward to a fun season. You'll be getting all the info you need over the next few weeks (either from me or the newly appointed U6/U8 age group coordinators: Kate Eldredge, Steve Gandt (U6); Chris Ullathorne (U8 Boys); Jim Hill (U8 Girls)), but at this time we want to make sure you were aware of the following upcoming key dates.

DYSA Minisoccer Coach and Parent Orientation Session

The Duxbury Youth Soccer Association will be conducting a Minisoccer Coach and Parent Orientation/Training Session on Sunday September 9th from 12 noon-2 p.m. at the Coppens Field Complex at Chandler School (in case of inclement weather, the Chandler School Gymnasium will be used). This preseason session is for all volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches, as well as any interested parents (whether or not you can help with the coaching this season). The session will provide all coaches with fun and effective ways to teach our young players the game of soccer. Coaches should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. As in the past, Lee Maxey will be conducting the session.

Anyone interested in learning about being a coach is more than welcome. No previous soccer experience is necessary; your willingness to help out is all that is needed. All coaches from prior seasons are strongly encouraged to attend as it is a good refresher, and generates a lot of good discussion on coaching tips/techniques. Please contact Jim Sullivan at  with questions.
